Girls Night Out

Hey Dolls!

Last Saturday my sisters were going out for a little Girls Night Out. I gave each of them 4 different Looks! My sister, Niqua doesn't really care for netural colors, like gold and browns but she let me do whatever I wanted. So I used a bronzey orange color on her lids and she loved it. It matched her earrings perfectly. My sister, Semi is totally different. She doesn't like wearing bright colors on her eyes, only neutral colors. So, I told her I wanted to do something different on her but I promised it would look soft, so I used a bright hot pink. My sis, Breshia doesn't wear makeup at all so I decided to keep it neutral. And my sister, Shan wears any color, so I knew what colors I picked she would like.

Review: CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation

Hey Dolls!

Today I’m going to do a product review on CoverGirl Queen Collection Liquid Foundation.

"Finally, a beautiful new makeup from CoverGirl with shades that match up to 97% of skin tone from Rich Sand to True Ebony" "Because every woman is a Queen"
from www.covergirl.com/queen

The Good
-It’s super easy to color match
-It’s very smooth and light weight, feels like your not wearing foundation
-Its very photo friendy, looks great for flash photography
-Very blendable and easy to apply and blend
-Doesn't take up much room, comes in a very small container
-Inexpensive $6.29 @ Target

The Bad
-There really aren’t any!

Where can I purchase it? Target or www.COVERGIRL.com/QueenCollection

How much is it? $6.99

Overall:
I started using this last year on myself and I really loved it. So, I started testing it out on my four sisters and they loved it too. My sisters use to never wear any kind of liquid or cream foundation, or even foundation at all but now you can’t even get them to put this product down! We all liked the smooth finish and how it feels like your not wearing foundation at all, but what I also loved was how easy it was to color match. Usually when Women Of Color try on foundation its either to dark, to light or too red, but not the Queen Collection Liquid Foundation. You get it right the first time! It was so easy to color match people when applying their makeup. So, in my opinion it’s a great product for Women of Color to have. What I also enjoy about the product is it has a range of colors for not only African American Women but Hispanic and Asian Women as well.

Here are the 5 colors I currently have right now:

From Left to Right: Classic Bronze Q710, Golden Honey Q725, Warm Caramel Q730, Spicy Brown Q745, and Rich Minx Q750

Here are the color swatches of the liquid foundation:

So, I hope you Dolls enjoyed my first product review. There is more to come!

My 1st Makeup Workshop

Hey Dolls!

Well Last year in June I went to my first makeup workshop because since I decided I want to branch out and start doing makeup for Women Of Color I decided I needed to see if I had all the basics down. Well, to first start off I didn't to much enjoy the workshop but I was very grateful for the instructors time. I feel I didn't learn more than I already knew. I already know the applying process I really just wanted to learn more about eyeshadow placement, colors to combine, and bridal makeup. I basically wanted to learn what I paid for and I didn't. But I have to omit I had a lot of fun in the process. I took my sister, Shan as my model and she was great and very supportive. After the workshop the instructor said I did a great job and I'm very observant and I was proud of myself that I did a good job because I've never had any formal training. For right now, I am currently in the process of researching makeup schools because my goal for 2010 is to attend makeup school and become a better makeup artist.

Here's my finish look after the workshop:

Blue High Heels Inspired Makeup

Hey Dolls!

I'm back with another post. I've been posting all of my makeup looks I've done in the past most of them are from last year 2009 but I'm going to post some more recent ones soon and well this is another post I'm doing on makeup looks I did on my sisters. They were going out clubbing and they were wearing black dresses and both of my sisters have similar style so they both purchased blue high heel shoes. So, I came up with two looks to complement there blue high heel shoes.

Makeover: Sexy Silver Eyes

Hey Dolls!

Every one who knows me knows I love makeover shows, like What not to wear, Style her famous, and Look-A-Like. So, I decided to give my god-sister Breshia a makeover. I was reading Seventeen Magazine as usual and saw they had a new trend called Sexy Silver Eyes. In the magazine they stated silver eyeshadow was in. They had a picture of Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson wearing silver eyeshadow and they looked so elegant and beautiful. So, I thought for my sister’s makeover I would try the Alicia Keys look on her. I found a cute little top for her and some cute earrings at Forever 21. I first began the makeover by of course taking a before picture of her, then I began to curl her hair. Which took almost 2 hours to curl. (gosh that girl has so much hair!) After her hair was all curled I began to do her makeup.

Here’s a picture of Alicia Keys Look:

Camille's Prom

Hey Dolls!

This was my first time doing prom makeup and Camille was my first actual client. I know Camille from church, we attend the same church and she asked me to do her makeup for prom. I was flattered and nervous at the same time. I was flattered because she said she like the way I do my makeup and I was nervous because I’ve never done anyone’s makeup besides my sisters. I told her of course I would do it. I asked her to come by my house the week before and bring a picture of the dress so we can try a couple of looks. Camille and her family came over and we talked about what she wanted and I practiced two looks on her. She liked the first look because it was a lot lighter and softer than the second look. Camille is not really a makeup person so she wanted her cheeks and lip color to be very light.

Welcome Dolls!!!

Hello Dolls!

This is my very first post! I was inspired to make a beauty blog for two reasons. The first reason was because I've always been passionate about makeup. But when I was in high school it was very difficult for me to find out how to chose a foundation, how to find my right shade of foundation, or what eyeshadow colors I should be wearing. Women in my family didn't wear makeup at the time and when I went to cosmetic counters to seek help there was no one with my skin complexion or no one with a similar complexion to help me. So, I took it upon myself to research and study to find the best makeup products that work for me and other Women Of Color.

So, I'm made this beauty blog because after reading and studying cosmetic companies, cosmetic books, websites and other blogs, applying makeup to myself, and practice, practice, practice, I now have the knowledge and desire to help other Women Of Color!

To give a background of myself. I've always been into makeup ever since I was 15 years old.

What started my passion for makeup?
My grandma gave me a cosmetics book for my 15Th birthday called Fine Beauty by Sam Fine. I fell in love right aways. I also learned how to do makeup from Seventeen magazine. I'll still to this very day get Seventeen magazines and that's mostly where I get my beauty tips from. For 4 years I've always done makeup on myself, my mom, and my sisters but in April 2009 I decided I needed to branch out and practice on other Women Of Color.

So, on my beauty blog I like to share with beauty tips and products reviews for women of color to help you along the way on your makeup journey to finding the right products that work for you. So be ready for lots of pictures, helpful tips, product reviews, tutorials, and hauls.
